After the building owner appoints a surveyor and serves notice, the adjoining owner has the right to appoint their own independent surveyor if they dissent. These surveyors act impartially and fairly to protect the interests of the owners and agree an Award. If the Adjoining Owner does not appoint a surveyor, the Building Owner’s surveyor can appoint a surveyor to act on their behalf in order to move the process along. The adjoining owner can also appoint the building owner’s surveyor to act as the ‘Agreed Surveyor’.
